Twitter links and debriefing from online conversation

I'm interested in hearing about your experiences online Thursday night during our lurking and tweeting for the #u30pro discussion. Friday, I had a chance to discuss our experience with a few students in the small group meeting, but I want to hear from all of you.

Also, here are two links from The Dallas Morning News about Twitter and other social medea use during the aftermath of the Haiti earthquake. Local corporation American Airlines had a tough time with one rumor, and a professional who handles social media for the company, Stephanie Martinez, will be visiting our class in early March during Schieffer's Social Media Week.

An earlier (and better) effort in persuasion in PR history

Sojourner Truth's speech from 1851 at the Women's Convention:

Here's more of the same, in terms of the textbook story of PR, but it has a great section on 9/11 and British history of PR:

Next week, the Twitter assignment is ...

... joining the #u30pro discussion on Thursday night at 7 p.m. This is the discussion co-moderated by a former student and friend, Lauren Fernandez, who works in Dallas for Moroch. Here's more:

http://www.brazencareerist.com/2010/01/21/under-30-professionals-freestyle-discussion

Our goal is to listen to this discussion, to participate minimally if at all, and to retweet good advice and questions to each other via our own hashtag, #jour30403 (this is different from our twitter page), between 9 and 11 p.m. that night. Propose your own questions for that group, and we'll get Lauren to respond later when she's available.

Issues management imperative for brand management

A seasoned public relations practitioner serves an important role on the brand management team, for many reasons, but especially for issues management. This story from AdAge, about a cruise line still visiting Haiti, shows why:
