Journalists and thinking about audiences

This is the journalism/news version of our discussion about publics, in chapter 4. It's a long column, but just skim the first part for the gist of what Jay Rosen is saying: We cannot think of an audience or public as a "mass" group anymore. We must think of individuals who also have access to powerful media, who can also help us be better. (Just like the "United Breaks Guitars" case, if anyone had been listening.) And we must think about conversations that are outside of our own, that may lead us to change and evolve into a better organization.
